Privacy Policy

Upright is built around one rule: nothing your camera sees ever leaves your device. This page explains exactly what that means, what gets stored locally, which permissions the extension asks for, and why it asks for them.

Camera access

Upright uses your webcam to estimate your posture. When you click Start Camera, your browser asks for camera permission the normal way, through its own native prompt, the same one any video calling site would use.

Once granted, video frames are read directly into the extension's own background process and analyzed on your device with a pretrained vision model that ships inside the extension itself. Each frame is processed and discarded immediately. No frame, image, or video clip is ever saved to disk, copied anywhere, or sent over a network. There is no server on the other end to send it to.

What stays on your device

A small amount of data is saved locally using your browser's storage, tied only to your browser profile on your own machine:

Your calibration baseline. A short set of numbers describing your own upright posture, not an image or video.
Your streak and daily posture stats. Aggregate numbers such as time tracked and average score.
Session summaries shown after you stop the camera.
A short to do list, if you choose to use one.
Your language and display settings.
The floating indicator's on screen position, if you enable it.

None of this is tied to an account, because Upright has no accounts, and none of it is transmitted anywhere, because Upright has no server.

What Upright never does

Never uploads video, images, or audio anywhere.
Never requires or creates an account.
Never includes analytics, trackers, or third party scripts.
Never sells or shares your data. There is nothing to share, since none of it leaves your device.
Never syncs your data to the cloud or across devices.

Permissions, and why Upright asks for them

storage Saves your calibration, stats, and settings locally, as described above.

offscreen Runs the camera feed and the posture model in a background page while the popup is closed.

tabs Opens the session summary page in a new tab once you stop the camera.

scripting Injects the floating posture indicator into a page, but only after you explicitly click "Enable on all sites" in the popup.

Site access Optional and off by default. Lets the floating indicator appear on pages you visit once you turn it on. It is used only to display the indicator, never to read the content of your pages.

Data retention and deletion

Because everything lives in your browser's local storage, you are always in control of it. Clearing the extension's storage, or uninstalling Upright, removes all of it immediately. The event log inside the popup can also be cleared at any time from the Log panel.

Children's privacy

Upright is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. Since the extension collects no personal data from anyone, on device or otherwise, this holds true for users of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated to reflect it. Meaningful changes will also be noted in the extension's own release notes.
